Zagreb Company and Vrboska School Combine to Clean up Beaches on Hvar

An appeal to the local tourist office for help raising funds for school equipment by the school in Vrboska has resulted in a partnership with a company in Zagreb, leading to some small environmental initiatives by Vrboska pupils to improve the local surroundings.

While there was no budget for the tourist office to intervene directly, the employee at the Vrboska Tourist Office spread the word, and Zagreb company MakroMikro, supplier of office hardware, answered the call by donating a printer to the school.

Rather than making the donation a one-off commitment, the company agreed to supply print cartridges free of charge, but with a condition - that the pupils earn the cartridges by engaging in small environmental projects and sending photographic proof.

First on the list was a mission to clean up the beach opposite the old town, and a team of pupils and adults took to the task with gusto, collecting all the rubbish in a short time, rendering the beach clean for the season and the school printer well-stocked in cartridges.

  1. That activity looks wonderful. It will also teach schoolkids to learn about the importance of taking care of the environment.
